Have you read his earlier book, Half Resurrection Blues? I got it in paperback at WisCon. It's different from Shadowshaper, partly in that it's for adults not YA, and it's also less about family, with characters whose support systems don't necessarily include relations. I liked it a lot, though; it's worth checking out.
